Aunt Bert's White Cake recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup boiling water

    Instructions:

  • Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda.
  • Set aside.
  • Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  • Beat well.
  • Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.
  • Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture.
  • Add boiling water, and mix well.
  • Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool.
  • I frost with cream cheese frosting.
