Red Hearts recipe


    3 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 drops red food coloring

    Instructions:

  • Mix ingredients in the order given.
  • Divide dough and add enough red food coloring for desired shades of pink or red.
  • Refrigerate dough for 40 to 60 minutes.
  • Roll and cut out with heart cutters.
  • Sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 11 minutes.
  • Do not overbake.
