SMUCKER'S® Stuffed French Toast recipe


    10 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup whipping cream or half-and-half
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar Smucker's® Apricot Preserves
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Fresh fruit

    Instructions:

  • Beat together cream cheese, sugar, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla and cinnamon until fluffy.
  • Stir in nuts; set aside.
  • Cut bread into 10 to 12 (11/2- to 2-inch) slices; cut pocket in top of each.
  • Fill each pocket with about 11/2 tablespoons of cream cheese mixture.
  • Beat together eggs, whipping cream, remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and nutmeg.
  • Using tongs, dip bread slices in egg mixture, being careful not to squeeze out filling.
  • Cook on a lightly greased griddle until both sides are golden brown.
  • (To keep cooked slices hot for serving, place on baking sheet in warm oven.
  • )Meanwhile, combine and heat SMUCKER'S® preserves and orange juice.
  • Stir in almond extract.
  • To serve, drizzle apricot mixture over French toast.
  • Serve with fresh fruit.
