Wheat and Barley Bread recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (eg. Grapenuts TM)
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted shortening

    Instructions:

  • In a small bowl, soak grape nuts in buttermilk for 1 hour.
  • In a large bowl, combine buttermilk mixture, sugar, salt, egg, and baking soda.
  • Stir until sugar dissolves.
  • Mix in the melted shortening and the flour.
  • Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.
  • Cool.
